In today’s fast-moving world, social media is becoming a necessary element for any business to show off the brand and engage customers. If your social feeds offer effective sales copy, engaging content, and regularly updated news items, customers will follow you.
David Geithner, former executive vice president of Time, Inc., oversaw a diversification of revenue in the business that resulted in an almost 7% overall increase in revenue. Some of that was due to social media. If you want your business to thrive in a similar fashion, follow these tips to develop a fantastic social media feed.
1. Stay Active
While there is no set rule for how much or little you should post on social media, staying active is best. A couple of posts a day on sites such as Twitter or Instagram keeps your content fresh and visible to visitors and this lets your followers see your posts more often. For longer-form content, such as blog posts or articles, a few times a week may be sufficient. It depends a lot on your business and what you want to offer your followers.
An inactive account won’t impress new followers or people who are curious about your brand or business.
2. Engage Your Followers
For larger accounts, you may not be able to respond or even see every interaction. Added to that, the proliferation of bots, trolls, and spammers makes it unwise to respond to every tweet, post, or DM. However, for legitimate responses to your feed, engaging with people makes your followers happy. It might be as simple as “liking” a post your brand is tagged in or sending a quick thank you for positive customer feedback and praise.
3. Be Relevant
Don’t post random or unrelated content for your brand — but don’t spam your feed with the same posts over and over. People will notice and get irritated by stale or recycled content. After all, they are following you for deals and updates. It’s fine to re-use material, just shake it up and package it in a new and engaging way to keep people interested.
If posting frequently feels overwhelming, don’t worry — there are many platforms that can help you schedule posts for social media sites, so you can pre-load multiple posts and have them sent by the automated software. Not only does this keep your feed active, but it also saves you time. You can batch content and schedule it out over a period of hours, days, or even weeks, and then let the automation do the work for you.
4. Provide Value
People will follow your brand for many reasons. Ask yourself a simple question: What value do you provide? Whether it’s tips or advice, products or services, news or information, ask yourself what you offer that people want. Then focus on providing that. No one likes a spammy account, so while you can use your social media to sell products and services, diversify the type of posts so they feel fresh and engaging.
Be authentic and true to your business’s mission and you can leverage the power of social media for great results.
