There’s a reason why kitchen spaces are often referred to as ‘the heart of one’s home’. As a place where families tend to spend a lot of time together. You and your wider household will want to ensure that your kitchen is as functional and practical as possible so that you can get the most use out of your space on a daily basis. And it goes without saying that how you design your kitchen can have a huge impact on just how functional your space will be.

One key thing that you will absolutely need to keep in mind when designing your kitchen space is the placement of your electrical power points. Nowadays, we have more appliances in our kitchens than ever before. With modern kitchen spaces now being equipped with their own kettle, toaster, blender, air fryer, and a myriad of other appliances, you’ll need to ensure that your kitchen is both fitted with enough power points for all of these items and that your power points are well-positioned to maximize productivity.

A kitchen with power points in all the wrong places can be very difficult and cumbersome to live with. While there is no one-size-fits-all solution to positioning your power points, there are a few little tricks that you should keep in mind when planning your space

Let’s take a look at some useful tips to help you to choose the right locations for your kitchen power points.

Start With The Major Appliances

Every kitchen will need the same large appliances such as your oven, stove, refrigerator, dishwasher, and microwave. When you are deciding on the layout of your kitchen, you should start with these larger items first and then the rest of the kitchen will naturally take shape around these appliances. Having power points next to where these large appliances will be located is important, but be sure that there’s also an adequate amount of space for these kitchen appliances to sit as well.

Consider Other Appliances

Smaller appliances such as kettles, toasters, and blenders will need to be considered next. These items are typically used where they are positioned, which tends to be right on your countertops. Look around your kitchen space and figure out exactly where you’d ideally like to use these appliances so that you can then ascertain where it may be best for you to position their electrical power points.

You will want to include at least one power point for each appliance that lives on your countertops and a few extras for additional appliances you’ll be using from time to time, like a rice cooker or pressure cooker. Be sure not to arrange these smaller appliances to be too close together, however, as it may result in your countertops looking cluttered as well as make your kitchen space much harder to tyle.

Additional Power Points

Once you have enough power points installed across your countertops, you will need to add some additional power points to other areas of your kitchen. For example, if you have a kitchen island, it can be useful to have a few power points installed there so that you can charge your phone or tablet for referencing recipes, or even to use appliances on the island freely from time to time. Some pantry spaces may even benefit from a power point or two.

It’s important to note that not all home cooks will be using their kitchen space the same. So the placement of your additional power points will likely be largely reliant on your own personal preferences. Try to consider how you will use your kitchen space from day to day to determine where these additional power points should go.

Power Point Positioning

When you have decided on all of the locations for your power points. You will need to hire an electrician to install them for you. Typically, power points will be installed about ten to fifteen centimeters above your worktops and they should be kept well away from any areas that are exposed to water, such as near your sink. Other power points will be placed approximately fifteen to twenty centimeters above the floor surface. Be sure to speak with your local electrician to find the best solution for your kitchen setup.

Choose Power Point Locations That Will Make Your Kitchen More Functional

As you can see, when you are deciding where to position the power points in your kitchen. It’s crucial that you keep functionality in mind. Ultimately, where you place your power points should make your kitchen more user-friendly, functional, and practical. Making it a more enjoyable place for you and your family to prepare wholesome meals and spend quality time with one another in the process.
